The Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge

 Located in Southwest Oklahoma, the Wichita Mountains are among the oldest mountain ranges on earth. Set within this 500 million-year-old mountain range lies the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge. The WMWR was established in 1901 and is the oldest managed wildlife facility in the United States Fish and Wildlife Service system. It preserves approximately 60,000 acres of Oklahoma prairie and is home to Oklahoma’s largest elk herd, in addition to herds of American bison, white-tailed deer, and Texas longhorn cattle.
